The first rope parks began to appear in the 1960s in Europe and the USA. They were created as a new form of outdoor recreation that helped develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills. Over time, rope parks have become a popular pastime for all age groups.
Today, rope parks can be found in different parts of the world, and their many variants can offer visitors a variety of obstacles and challenges. They are used as tools for training, team building, extreme sports and simply for outdoor recreation. The design of rope parks is also improving, and today you can find safer and more innovative solutions, such as zip lines and many others.
George Herbert
George Hebert was a naval officer who served in France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He developed his method of physical training, which was called the “natural movement method” (Natural Movement).
One element of this method is the ropes course Herbert created to train his soldiers in skills such as climbing, balancing, jumping over obstacles and overcoming their fear of heights. Herbert’s rope course was the first of its kind and became the forerunner of modern rope parks.
Herbert’s ropes course consisted of several wooden and metal structures mounted on trees. The soldiers went through this course, overcoming various obstacles at a height. It also included combat elements such as climbing over walls and crossing ditches.
The natural movement method and Herbert’s rope course were widely adopted in France and became the basis for the development of modern methods of physical training. In addition, they also influenced the development of rope parks and extreme sports related to overcoming obstacles at a height.
