The longest glass suspension bridge

The longest glass suspension bridge connecting two mountain peaks in Zhangjiajie Nature Reserve National Park, Hunan Province, has been opened in China. The bridge is called Qiao – translated means “Bridge of brave people”.

The glass bridge is 275.5 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 181 meters high above the chasm.

Initially, it was an ordinary bridge with a wooden covering, in 2014 the management of the national park decided to make one of the sections glass, the effect was stunning. They decided to make the decking of the bridge completely out of glass.

For this, it was necessary to significantly strengthen the supporting structures, glass is much heavier than wood. Also, for safety, special nets were laid under the bridge, which catch, if the glass breaks, visitors to the bridge will not fall into the abyss, but hang in the net.
